Huawei’s send command

by tnk on Apr.06, 2009, under Huawei, Networking

Huawei LogoThis article is just about small, handy and not-so-widely known command in all Huawei’s equipment. The command is in user-view and is called send.

If you are wandering what exactly does this do the answer is quite simple – it is sort of instant messaging built into every VRP I have seen. It enables to send message to any console/terminal the device has.

From theory to practise let us issue the send command and see the options:

<Quidway>send ?
INTEGER<0-86> Specify one user terminal interface
all All user terminal interfaces
aux Aux user terminal interface
console Primary user terminal interface
tty Async serial user terminal interface
vty Virtual user terminal interface

Here we see that send can literally  reach any interface  we want or just all of them. If you are lazy as me or you do not care about flooding all terminals you can just issue send with all option which will end in following dialogs.

<Quidway>send all ?
<cr>
<Quidway>send all
Enter message, end with CTRL+Z or Enter; abort with CTRL+C:
Your message here^Z
Send message? [Y/N]:y
<Quidway>

***
***
***Message from vty0 to vty0
***
Your message here

So you can see that I wrote this “Your message here” text and ended it with enter key.

This is very simple and easy way how you can collaborate remotely on one piece of equipment and share important information with your co-workers. Of course there is also other use possible like chat of your networking department etc.

I hope this will be useful to you all.
